Travel stories from Vietnam

Vietnam has long been one of Asia’s best-kept travel secrets, but especially in recent years the country has developed out of its turbulent history into an intriguing and multifaceted travel destination. A land of great natural beauty, Vietnam is also a place where tradition and modern life intermingle. The opulent palaces and temples of Vietnam’s ancient cities are as much a part of the cityscape as the bright and chaotic street markets, where mopeds zip and rickshaws hurry by.

Travel Stories from Vietnam

I had the opportunity to discover the whole country

"I really enjoyed my stay in Vietnam, since I had the opportunity to discover the whole country. During the first three weeks, we visited nearly all the important cities in Vietnam, starting in the north and ending in the south, in Nha Trang. We mainly visited tourist attractions, but we also spent a few days in various children's homes.

Later, my volunteer work in the orphanage at Bin Luc consisted of a renovation of the bedrooms and classrooms for the children. We cleaned and painted the window gratings and shutters. We did this work in the mornings, and in the afternoons we had time to work with the children or to teach them English. Our working day began at 8:30 a.m. and lasted until 4 p.m., with a midday break. I thought the combination of travel and volunteer work was excellent and the local supervision was also very good."
