There was no such thing as an average day!

My time in Venezuela was amazing! I brushed up on my Spanish during the week-long language course and was able to really communicate with people. I got to know another culture - another way of life, got some work experience, and found new friends from all over the world.

I worked on the “Don Bosco” project, where I was in charge of supervising one boy – washing him, taking him to school, helping him with his homework, picking him up from school… Then I played with all the children at the project site (card games, football) and went on excursions with them. For example, I went hiking in the mountains with the smaller children. I offered support to the teachers with their work, helped with the English class, and also taught class by myself once. There was no such thing as an average day!

During my free time I was in Mérida and in the Sierra Nevada, went mountain biking, horseback riding, and paragliding, saw a football game between Venezuela and Cuba (3:1), went hiking in the Andes…

My advice for future travellers: Taking out money with a bank card works, but it is super-expensive. Take traveller’s cheques or cash and exchange your money in Venezuela!
