When you set out to volunteer in Venezuela with TravelWorks, you'll gain a deep understanding of Venezuelan culture through volunteer work, Spanish lessons, and excursions, as part of a 5 or 8-week programme.
Spanish language course
You will be based either in the lively student town of Mérida, located over 1600 m above sea level in the Andes Mountains, or in Playa Colorada, situated in Mochima National Park. Here, you will take a 1 or 4-week Spanish course of 20 lessons per week, each lesson lasting about 45 minutes. If you have no previous knowledge of Spanish or only very basic knowledge of the language, we strongly recommend that you take the 4-week Spanish course before you volunteer in Venezuela. You may also want to extend the course beyond 4 weeks, for an additional price of Ł 190 (US$ 310 or 230 €) per week.
After the language course, you will begin to volunteer in Venezuela. During your volunteer work, you will also receive 10 Spanish lessons a week.
Accommodation during the Language Course & Volunteer Work
During the language course and volunteer work in Venezuela, you will stay in Mérida or Playa Colorada. In Mérida, you will be accommodated with other volunteers in a posada in a quiet area in the middle of the city. Here you will have a connection to a Venezuelan family, who will live with you in the house and provide you with meals.
In Playa Colorada, you will stay in a traditional beach lodge, built directly on the coast in the style of the indigenous Warao people. You will have the choice between sleeping in a hammock in the wind or in a comfortable bed, depending on the heat.
In both locations volunteers are provided with half board (breakfast and supper).
