Photo Project in South Africa
St. Lucia, located on the northeast coast of South Africa, was the first area of the country to be declared a UNESCO natural world heritage site. Here, you can find five different ecosystems – savannahs, wetlands, and beaches stretch for miles and are home to the numerous species of wild animals here.
Photo Project in South Africa: St. Lucia
Aim well, shoot fast, and scram – so said the great French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. As a volunteer, you will help to develop a photo databank of the wild animals in the region around St. Lucia. You will set out on photo-safaris and photograph every animal that comes before your lens: elephants, bison, rhinos, and leopards, and also smaller animals, such as chameleons, insects, and several of the 521 bird species in the area. The best pictures are added to the database each afternoon.
Aside from your photography work, you will also visit schools and local communities and use photography from the database to strengthen awareness about wildlife conservation. You will also accompany school children and orphans on a few photo-safaris.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in other projects, from teaching lessons about wildlife, to planting trees, to helping with crocodile conservation. Many opportunities are waiting for you!
Photo of the month / Photo of the year
Each month, a “Photo of the Month” will be chosen. Who knows? Maybe one of your photos will be nominated!
