Volunteering in China

The following services are included in our volunteer work programme for China:

• Transfer from Shanghai airport
• 5-day orientation event in Shanghai
• Accommodation during the orientation event (shared room in a hostel or in a shared flat)
• Placement in a volunteer project
• Transfer to the project (only for project placements in and around Shanghai)
• Accommodation during the volunteer work (shared room on the school grounds or in a shared flat)
• Meals during the volunteer work (full board from Monday to Friday)
• Workshop in Chinese culture and Mandarin
• Support, help and advice from an appointed programme co-ordinator
• Assistance when taking out travel insurance
• Assistancen when applying for the visa
• Telephone card
• English-speaking contact partner in China
• Local 24-hour emergency number
• Certificate upon return

Prices

• Age: 18 years and above
• Language: For project placement in Shanghai; very good knowledge of English; project placement in Si Chuan: good knowledge of English
• Practical experience: Not mandatory, but teaching experience is advantageous and would certainly make your stay easier.
• Other: As you are going to enter a completely new cultural region, you must have a lot of patience, adaptability, self-sufficiency and travel experience. You must also use your initiative a great deal.

• If required, onward travel to Chengdu (approximately 130 £, 255 US$ or 190 €)
• Meals during the orientation days
• Visa costs (dependent on the duration of stay: 15-45 £, 30-90 US$ or 20-60 €)
• Vaccinations

• Personal expenses for excursions, transport etc.
