Social projects

Volunteers help to care for mistreated, neglected, and abandoned children in social projects in Cape Town. You will support the children as they deal with their suffering and conflicting emotions. Some organisations train community representatives. Projects for children with disabilities, orphanages, and special homes for women and girls are also happy to accept volunteers.

A few projects require that you stay at least 9 weeks, with a minimum age of 21 years.

Education

Various schools, ranging from kindergarten/preschool facilities to high schools and children's daycare centres, depend to a great degree on volunteer help. Here, your volunteer work in Cape Town will include teaching, assisting teachers, supporting children with learning difficulties, or preparing lessons. In the daycare centres, kindergartens, and preschools, you will care for children and babies, organise games and free-time activities, prepare meals, assist with renovation work, tidy up, and clean.

Sport

At local schools, you will offer sport instruction or help out in football camps. Aside from offering general sport practice, you can also take part in fitness training and team-building activities. Teaching the children how to live healthy lifestyles and to eat properly could also be part of your duties.

Health

In the field of health care, volunteers work in clinics, hospitals, hospices, and HIV-prevention projects. They care for children and the ill, assist doctors and nurses, and organise workshops in schools.

It is only possible to be placed in the field of healthcare if you are over age 20 and if you plan to stay for 9 weeks. Volunteers should have prior medical knowledge for these projects.
