Volunteer in Tanzania - Zanzibar
Zanzibar, an archipelago off the coast of Tanzania, is one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. The main island, Unguja, is about 100 kilometres long and 30 kilometres wide, and has so much to offer. White-sand beaches line the turquoise-blue water for kilometres, and a bright mix of cultures, with Indian, Arabian, and African influences, is evident everywhere you go on the group of islands.

Volunteer in Tanzania - Zanzibar
Discover the capital of Zanzibar, Zanzibar City, whose old Stone Town has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the bright market, mosques, and narrow streets, or experience the untouched nature and fascinating animal world.
The other side of the coin: poverty, widespread unemployment, and an insufficient educational system. Help to improve the living conditions of the local population as a volunteer on Africa’s “Spice Island”. Volunteer in Tanzania in Zanzibar!
Volunteer in Tanzania: Orientation
As you live and volunteer in Tanzania, you will be in Zanzibar, the famous group of islands off the Tanzanian coast. You will live in the town of Jambiani, on the east coast of the island. The capital, Zanzibar City, is just about an hour away from Jambiani, which is right on the gorgeous white-sand beach.
Your Accommodation in Zanzibar
As a volunteer in Tanzania, you will stay in a volunteer bungalow with other volunteers from around the world. Each bungalow room houses up to three people, and each bungalow has its own bathroom (no warm water!), fans, and a mosquito net for each bed.
The only thing between the bungalow and the public beach is an expanse of white sand and some palm trees. Get ready to relax, soak in some sun, play a round of Frisbee, or read a book in peace when you are not volunteering. You will receive full board as a volunteer in Tanzania. A cook will take care of lunch and supper for you, and you will prepare your own breakfast with provided food.
From the shared food area, you will have a direct view of the water, and evenings you will view spectacular sunsets. Once a week, you will eat supper in a local restaurant in Jambiani.
At the beginning of the programme, there will be an orientation, which will give you time to check out the culture and operations of the volunteer project.

The additional visa costs US$100 in cash. Furthermore, you will need to bring along 6 passport photos and a colour copy of your passport.
- Practical Experience: Not necessary, but it would certainly make your stay easier. TEFL qualification (= Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is an advantage, but not required.
