Volunteer in Indonesia - Bali
Bali is often described as the “Island of the Gods”. Whether this stems from the over 20,000 temples and religious ceremonies or from the unrivalled landscape and the friendly culture of the Balinese is for you to decide.
Mother Nature truly outdid herself creating Bali, but the country does wrestle with problems: traffic chaos, environmental destruction, inflation, poverty, and materialism are as much a part of Bali as its pretty temple dancers and magical full-moon nights.
Volunteer in Bali - in Ubud or Klungkung
Ubud is located in the middle of Bali in Gianyar, and has been Bali’s art, dance, and music capital for over a century. Aside from culture, you will also find nature and inspiration as a volunteer in Indonesia in Bali – you are sure to feel at ease here. The city’s surroundings are full of the sorts of things that attract people to Bali: rice fields, villages, artisan and handcraft associations, ancient temples, palaces, mountains, and rivers.
Klungkung, the capital and namesake of the smallest region in Bali, is known for its typical Balinese paintings. In the former capital of the Kingdom of Bali, you will find the court of the island’s early ruler as well as government buildings from the time. As a volunteer in Bali, you will have the chance to dive into the island culture, as this quiet city is visited by very few tourists.
Accommodation and Orientation in Bali
Volunteer in Bali - in Ubud
Your typical Balinese accommodation in Ubud is located in the city centre, which you will be able to reach and explore without a motor scooter. Aside from the bedrooms, the accommodation includes a community room with a television and DVD player. The bedrooms include a simple bathroom with cold showers.
As a volunteer in Bali in Ubud, you will need to take care of your own meals. Stores selling food are within walking distance, and you will have access to a refrigerator as well as fresh water, tea, and coffee at your accommodation. A means of cooking is not included in the accommodation, but there are nearby restaurants where you can purchase a typical Balinese meal for about $1.
Volunteer in Bali - in Klungkung
In Klungkung, you will stay in the volunteer house on the premises of the school. This is simple accommodation with bunk beds and cold showers. Yet the view from the veranda is unbelievably beautiful, stretching out from the coast to the neighbouring island of Nusa Lembingan and to Bali’s highest volcano, the Gunung Agung. You can reach the school by bicycle as you volunteer in Indonesia.
Breakfast is included, and there is a small kitchen with simple cooking facilities and the possibility to store food. You will be able to reach the city centre by foot, where you will find Balinese restaurants and food stands.
