Working holiday in Spain - Hospitality work

Al trabajo! – Off to work! Our partner organisation in Spain will arrange a job for you in a 3 to 5-star hotel or country guesthouse in Andalusia, Costa Blanca, in Majorca, or on the Canary Islands. It is not possible for you to pick the location of your placement yourself.

Jobs in Spain

You will have diverse job possibilities during your working holiday in Spain, from waiting tables, working as a cashier, helping in a kitchen, and cleaning rooms, to providing entertainment, working as a lifeguard, and doing general assistance work. Although we naturally try to take your job preferences into account as we search for a job placement for you, your prior work experience and language skills and the job availability in Spain will ultimately determine your exact placement.

Most jobs for the working holiday in Spain are very simple and do not require any special skills. Workers often do various different types of work over the course of their stay, depending on what sort of help their hotel needs. Your co-workers will not only come from Spain, but from many different countries; you will most likely be working in an international team.

Wages and accommodation in Spain

In the extremely seasonal hotel industry, summer is a very busy time of the year. Therefore, you will most likely be working 8-9 hours per day during your working holiday in Spain. You’ll be busy, but you will usually have two days off per week. As compensation for your work, you will receive an income of at least £180 (US$ 300 / 200 €) per month, depending on your employer and job position.

During your working holiday in Spain, you will be staying in a shared room in the hotel or country guesthouse where you work. Full-board (three meals a day) will be included. You will have enough time after work and on your free days to discover more of Spain through excursions, tours, and other endeavours with your new friends.

Work hours and free time in Spain

  • Work hours: 40 hours per week, usually shift work. Working days will most likely include weekends and holidays.
  • Free time: Usually 2 days per week (not necessarily at the weekend or on two days in a row)
  • Activities: Waiting tables, service, kitchen help, general assistance, cleaning bedrooms and dining areas, providing entertainment, etc.
  • Clothing: For many hotel jobs in Spain, you will need to bring along appropriate clothing, or buy clothes once you are already in Spain. Typical attire for hotel jobs in Spain includes a white button-down shirt and nice black trousers/a modest black skirt. If your hotel job requires a uniform, the uniform will most likely be provided by your employer. Hotel jobs in Spain require a neat and tidy appearance (short hair for men, etc.)
  • Specifics: You can provide us with your preferences regarding your job position and the region where you would like to be placed, but your exact placement for your working holiday in Spain will depend on a number of factors, including your Spanish skills and hotel job availability. The type of work to which you are assigned may change from time to time. Please note that you will be working in a busy hotel during your working holiday in Spain. This means that work holds priority over the improvement of your language skills.
