South Africa is home to countless animal breeds. Antelopes, such as impala, kudu or springbok, roam the savannahs, as well as ostriches, flamingos, and zebras. Many national parks are home to mammals such as lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, and rhinos. Furthermore, around 170,000 wild African penguins live on the coasts and the islands, highly protected by nature conservation organisations.
