Help Lions in South Africa

As the name slyly suggests, South Africa makes up southernmost point of the African continent. With its coastline stretching over more than 2500 km, it borders both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. South Africa offers so many opportunities for wildlife volunteers: taking care of lion cubs is only one of the exciting experiences that await you. The Johannesburg Lion Project is located near the world-famous Kruger National Park!

It was wonderful – a completely different experience!

“During the first week, we mainly looked after the three-month old lion cubs; feeding them, washing them and letting them play. When the new-born babies arrived, we were busy with them around the clock: feeding, burping, cuddling and washing them. We had to look after the older cubs at the same time, and of course tidy up and clean their enclosures etc. We also helped a lot in the kitchen, especially if lots of school classes came at once. It was all great fun!

My stay in South Africa was wonderful - a completely different experience. I learnt how great it is not to have a TV, DVD, stereo or whatever around me. And I realised how lovely and hypnotising it was just to look up into a starry sky.
The people were all very friendly and the animals gave me sooo much… I have never felt so free before and never so much myself.”
