Evidence of Mexico's ancient cultural heritage can be found all over the country; ancient peoples such as the Maya and Aztecs have left many traces of their once-glorious reign. Today, Mexico's landscape is dotted with monuments from these civilizations, that have never lost their stunning appearance over the course of many centuries.

Totally fascinated by the Mexican way of life...

I spent most of my time in Mexico in beautiful Oaxaca, where I lived with a wonderful host family and took part in the language course. After this, I worked in the “Centro de Esperanza Infantil”. During the first week I mostly just helped in the kitchen – so I unfortunately didn’t have much contact with the children, though it was still interesting. Starting the second week, I got to play with the children a lot, supervising them as they painted and accompanying them as they went into town. I worked every day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During the language course I met a nice Dutch girl, and we travelled together for 2 ½ weeks through Mexico, visiting Mexico City, Acapulco, and the “Costa Oaxaqueña”, among other places. Everything was just perfect: I had an extremely nice host family, the language course was unrivalled, and on top of this, I met tons of new people from all over the world! I was totally fascinated by the Mexican way of life, and it was easy to really get to know the country and its people.
