Bella Italia – the land of sand and sun, the ancient Romans and their impressive edifices, good wine and delicious food, high fashion and designer labels, not to mention the art – Italy is a country everyone should visit at least once. It’s no wonder that so many tourists visit the boot-shaped Mediterranean peninsula. And where there are tourists, there is an abundance of hospitality jobs. Here’s your chance – avanti! Working Holiday in Italy

Working holiday in Italy

You can spend up to 4 months on a working holiday in Italy. Our partner organisation in Lecce places participants in 3 to 5-star hotels, which are usually located in the south of the country. Typical placement locations include the regions of Apulia and Abruzzo. You could also be placed in other regions or cities, such as Rome, Florence, or Milan. You will not be able to pick the location of your placement for your working holiday in Italy.

Working holiday in Italy: Hospitality Jobs

We will do what we can to place you in a job which meets your preferences, but your prior work experience, Italian language skills, and the seasonal job availability will ultimately determine your exact job placement for your working holiday in Italy.

Typical work includes waiting tables, bar-tending, cashiering, kitchen help, room-cleaning, work in the hotel laundromat, entertainment, and general assistance. Most jobs are very simple; you will most likely not be offered a career-furthering job.

Depending on what sort of work is needed at the time, you could end up doing several different types of work in your hotel or country guest house during your working holiday in Italy.

Accommodation and wages

In return for your work, which will consist of 38-40 hours per week, your employer will provide you with room and board. You will stay in a shared room in the hotel and receive full board (three meals per day). You will also be paid 200 € (in Rome 150 €) in pocket money each month during your working holiday in Italy.

Work hours and free time

  • Work hours: Usually 38-40 hours per week – usually shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Free time: 1 day per week (not necessarily at the weekend).
  • Activities: Waiting tables, kitchen work, general assistance, janitorial work, cleaning rooms and dining areas, providing entertainment, reception work, etc.
  • Clothing: For many hotel jobs in Italy, you will need to bring along appropriate clothing, or buy clothes once you are already in Italy. Typical attire for hotel jobs in Italy includes a white button-down shirt and nice black trousers/a modest black skirt. If your hotel job requires a uniform, the uniform will most likely be provided by your employer. Hotel jobs in Italy require a neat and tidy appearance (for example, short hair for men).
  • Specifics: You can provide us with your preferences regarding your job position and the region where you will be placed, but your exact placement for your working holiday in Italy will depend on a number of factors, including your Italian skills and current hotel job availability. The type of work to which you are assigned may change from time to time. You will not be able to choose the location of your job. Please note that during your working holiday in Italy you will be working in the hotel business. This means that work holds priority over the improvement of your language skills.
