You’d like to travel and engage in short term volunteering in Himachal Pradesh, but only have three weeks to spare? Then our short term programme in Himachal Pradesh is right for you! You’ll travel to the Indian state of Himachal and complete 2 or 3 weeks of volunteer work as you gain many new intercultural experiences and go on exciting excursions in India.

After you have arrived in New Delhi and had a good night’s sleep, your next stop will be Agra, where you will tour the world-famous mausoleum, the Taj Mahal. Once you’ve marvelled over the snow-white towers of this remarkable structure, travel to your project placement site in Himachal Pradesh. After an introduction to your volunteer project, you’ll begin your short term volunteering in Himachal Pradesh right away.

Construction, Renovation, and Social Projects

In our 2 to 3-week programmes, just as in our main programme in Himachal Pradesh, you will not participate in teaching projects, yet there will be plenty of opportunity for you to volunteer and make a valuable contribution in India! Renovation projects, in which you’ll plaster, paint, and decorate local facilities such as day-care centres, are perfect tasks for short term volunteering in Himachal Pradesh. You may also be involved in social development initiatives. Lend a hand:

Short term volunteering in Himachal Pradesh

• Plastering and painting walls in a children’s day-care centre,
• Renovating and improving facilities and playground equipment ,
• Tending to a school garden and improving sport fields.

Your short term volunteering in Himachal Pradesh could also include working in social-development projects, educating locals about nutrition and health issues such as HIV-prevention, or explaining how important a good education is for a child.

Short Term Volunteering in Himachal Pradesh

• Activities: Depends on the project.
• Free Time: At least two days a week, usually at the weekend.
• Specifics: Our local partners will identify your exact project placement once you’ve arrived. If you state a preference, we will do our best to take it into account. Please note that we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in a specific project.
• Duration: 2 to 3 weeks
• Application: At least 2 to 3 months before departure. We are happy to receive your application much earlier than this.
• Starting Dates: Year round, usually once a month on the following dates: 1 July, 29 July, 26 Aug., 23 Sept., 21Oct., 18 Nov., 16 Dec. (2010)
• Practical Experience: Not necessary, but an advantage.
• Other: Note that whilst volunteering short term in Himachal Pradesh, you will be travelling in a land with an entirely different culture – patience, flexibility, initiative, and travel experience are essential. Women need to dress in traditional Indian clothing. During the first days you will be advised on how to dress appropriately.
