Volunteer work in India

After the orientation, you will travel from Jaipur to Lalsot. Please note that it is only possible to start the volunteer work in India programme from August through March. Aside from the opportunity to do volunteer work in education projects, you could also be placed in the field of child care. If you would like to engage in further volunteer work in India, you may also help with renovation and in social projects for women.

Below you'll find examples of possible volunteer work in India:

Education

  • Teaching basics in English and mathematics to children, who are usually from needy backgrounds
  • Tutoring children
  • Encouraging creativity (painting, playing, singing)
  • Planning instructional materials with local teachers
  • Encouraging playful learning
  • Offering regular health check-ups through work with local doctors and hospital workers
  • Helping schoolchildren with their hygiene

Child care

  • Feeding, caring for, and looking after children in daycare centres
  • Healthcare and regular medical check-ups
  • Assistance with a study of pregnancy and babies
  • Organisation of free-time activities, movement and motor-training, and sport for children – possibly also children with disabilities

On top of this, you could do volunteer work in India in the following fields:

  • Women’s projects
  • Taking measures to improve the educational level and self-esteem of girls and women (for example, through computer or English classes)
  • Renovation work
  • Rebuilding, maintenance, and redecoration of schools, daycare centres, etc.

Volunteer work in India requires much flexibility from volunteers. Make sure you are open for various types of volunteer work, and show your creativity, ability to improvise, and personal initiative. During your volunteer work in India, you will be working closely with the local population, with other volunteers (usually), and with the employees of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
