Al trabajo! – off to work! Our Spanish partner organisation will arrange a job for you in a 3 to 5-star hotel or country guesthouse in Andalusia, on the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, in Majorca or the Canary Islands (it is not possible to choose the location of your placement yourself).

Jobs in Spain

There are various job possibilities here for you, from serving at tables to bar work, till work, helping in the kitchen, cleaning rooms, children's supervisor to lifeguard and general assistance. Although we do of course attempt to take your job preferences into account, your work experience, language skills and the amount of job vacancies each season mainly determine where you will be placed.

Most of the jobs are very simple – you will not usually be offered positions which could lead to a career, unless you already have a vocational training in the hotel business, your professional knowledge may prove an advantage. Often during your stay, you swap between various jobs - depending on the requirements made by the establishments. Your work colleagues are not only from Spain, but also from many other different countries – you will mostly be working in an international team.

Wages and accommodation in Spain

For the seasonal hotel industry, there is a lot of work in the summer. This means that you will be working an average of 8-9 hours per day. You will have plenty of things to do, but you generally have two days off per week. Your work is paid with a wage according to an internship  of at least 200 € (approx. £150 or 300 US$) per month – depending on the employer and position.

In addition, your employer will provide you accommodation in a shared room at the hotel or country guesthouse, full board included. Of course, after working hours or on your days off, there is always a sufficient amount of time for excursions, sight-seeing and other activities with your new friends.

Work and leisure time in Spain

  • Working hours: Generally 8-9 hours per day – usually shift work; also at weekends and on public holidays.
  • Time off: 2 days per week (not necessarily at the weekend and not necessarily on subsequent days).
  • Tasks: Serving at tables, service, kitchen work, general assistance, cleaning accommodation rooms and rooms in which meals are served, animation etc.
  • Specific charateristics: Referring to your position and the region where you are placed, you can give your preferences – the place of work and the tasks assigned to you are, however, dependent on the hotel business and your language skills. You will sometimes be assigned to do other tasks. You cannot select where your work placement will be. Please notice that you will be working in a busy hotel. This means that carrying out your work has priority over the improvement of your language skills. If a uniform is required, this will generally be provided by the hotel.
