Volunteer Work in Guatemala
Volunteer abroad in Guatemala as you learn Spanish! Our programme provides the ideal framework for exploring Guatemala and getting to know its people and culture. Live with a Guatemalan host family, immerse yourself in the culture, and do something meaningful for the local people.
Volunteer Work in Guatemala
After completing the language course, you will start your volunteer work in Guatemala. Projects are usually located in and around Antigua. There are many local facilities which depend on volunteer help, including orphanages, nursing homes, children's day-care centres, and small schools.
For four weeks, you will be helping as a volunteer in areas such as:
- Health advice
- Care
- Physiotherapy
- Homework supervision
- Organising games
- General activities for children
Your volunteer work in Guatemala will depend not only on the requirements of the projects, but also on your own initiative, your experience, and your language skills. You can state before you depart for Guatemala what sort of volunteer work you would prefer to do, but flexibility is essential.
In many cases, you will be doing volunteer work in Guatemala with very poor children, people with disabilities, the elderly, or families. Please be aware that there are often few materials to work with (for example, toys), and that the working conditions are not always simple or well-organised. Wherever you are placed, your volunteer work in Guatemala will be memorable.
The school will organise your project placement for your volunteer work in Guatemala. If you wish, you can extend your placement and stay longer than four weeks. You will pay an additional £ 65 (US$ 105 or 80 €) for each extra week of volunteer work, to cover meals and accommodation.
