Travel Stories Chile
As a volunteer in Chile, you will experience a land of extremes: the country’s proportions alone are impressive, with a length of over 4,300 km and a width of only about 180 km. In Chile, you will find the driest place and southernmost city in the world. Glaciers, geysers, fjords, snow-covered mountain chains, brightly-coloured ocean waters, and moon landscapes complete the fascinating spectrum of sceneries, which are home to incredibly diverse flora and fauna.
My time in Chile was unforgettable
“My time in Chile was unforgettable. I had a fantastic host family and lots of fun times with my three host sisters. In the language school (which I highly recommend), I not only had intensive Spanish instruction, I also met friendly people from all over the world. It is astounding how smoothly everything went – we spontaneously booked trips to the north and to the south, and I experienced one adventure after the other. Since Chile is a very safe land, I didn’t have to worry that something would happen to me.
I worked 2-3 half-days a week in the kindergarten at the YMCA. Since I can already speak Spanish very well, I was allowed to teach the children to write. I also helped the smallest children at mealtimes. I was allowed to plan my own work hours, and I often took two free days in order to travel at a long weekend. A once-in-a-lifetime experience was spending four days camping on Easter Island. The mysterious stone heads and fantastic sunsets were absolutely incredible!”
