Volunteer work in Argentina
Don’t cry for me Argentina – when it comes to this Latin American country, it's almost impossible not to envision tango dancers, cowboy-like Gauchos, the once-triumphant football legend Diego Maradona or, of course, the influential leader Eva “Evita” Peron. Despite severe economic crises, Argentina remains a popular travel destination, definitely worth more than one visit.
Volunteer work in Argentina
As a TravelWorks volunteer, you will have the opportunity to do volunteer work in Argentina in education, social projects, child care, health care, and possibly in cultural or nature conservation projects. Almost all of the volunteer projects which you can choose from are located in or close to Buenos Aires. Upon request, you have the opportunity to engage in volunteer work in Argentina in more than one project.
Project examples
Orphanage for Boys
This orphanage is both home and school for about 60 boys, ranging in age from 7 to 17 years of age. During your volunteer work in Argentina, you will support the orphanage’s staff by cooking and caring for the children, helping with homework, and teaching English. Volunteers are encouraged to plan creative or cultural activities for the children in order to give them insight into a different culture. Aside from this, there are also plans to renovate the orphanage, which would involve improving the rooms and walls, as well as painting the building's facade.
Centre for young single mothers
This centre, led by nuns, is slightly outside of the city and currently supports 30 single mothers between 15 and 21 years of age. The young women come from disadvantaged backgrounds; many have lived through poverty and abuse. In the afternoons, volunteers help to bring a bit of colour into the lives of the children and mothers, playing, singing, making crafts, going to the cinema, and doing sports activities.
Education for children and teenagers
You can also do volunteer work in Argentina in various schools or foundations throughout Buenos Aires. You could, for example, help teenagers to prepare themselves for the working world. Volunteers help teenagers put their knowledge into practice, giving them useful assistance as they search for jobs. Additionally, you would help staff members with administrative tasks.
